A sword that may well be composite - made from two surviving parts. The blade and cross mirror that of the Type XVIII's from the Castillon Hoard, so is probably from the 15th Century; 1420-1450-ish. The pommel, however, is something much more interesting. The arms are those of Pierre de Cros, Archbishop of Arles, and the arms can not date later than 1383, (when he was appointed as a Cardinal, and changed arms). It is an excellent example of a highly decorated pommel.
